A Associação ILGA Portugal informa a sua decisão de sair da Associação EuroPride Lisboa 2025 e de cessar o seu papel na organização do evento EuroPride 2025 que irá ocorrer em Lisboa. Esta decisão foi tomada após vários meses de reflexão profunda, e em articulação com a Associação Variações, como associação co-organizadora, e com a European Pride Organisers Association (EPOA), entidade licenciadora e supervisionadora do evento.

Gostaríamos de expressar o nosso profundo agradecimento a todas as pessoas que, em nome da ILGA Portugal, dedicaram o seu tempo e empenho por este projeto ao longo dos anos, e desde a primeira candidatura de trazer o EuroPride a Portugal. Agradecemos igualmente às diversas entidades que demonstraram o seu apoio a esta iniciativa e que, certamente, continuarão a contribuir para a concretização deste evento.

Queremos reforçar que esta não foi uma decisão fácil por parte da Direção da ILGA Portugal, e que reconhecemos o impacto do EuroPride na promoção da visibilidade e celebração da comunidade, tanto a nível nacional como internacional. No entanto, o contexto político e social atual exige que o nosso foco e esforços sejam dirigidos para uma ação política mais estruturada, presente e integrada em movimentos sociais mais amplos e interseccionais. 

O confronto diário com as crescentes necessidades das nossas comunidades, ao nível do apoio psicológico, social e comunitário, tornam evidente que a nossa prioridade deve ser a resposta a esses desafios. A organização de um evento com a dimensão e exigência do EuroPride, neste momento, é incompatível com a limitação de recursos da Associação, colocando em risco a sustentabilidade e a estrutura da ILGA Portugal e, assim, comprometendo a qualidade dos nossos serviços para com a comunidade. 

Comunicamos esta decisão com a consciência tranquila, sabendo que fizemos tudo ao nosso alcance para nos mantermos na organização, com todo o nosso conhecimento e experiência. Compreendemos a frustração e insatisfação que possa surgir nas nossas pessoas associadas, pessoas voluntárias e nas nossas comunidades, porque também sentimos essa mesma frustração. No entanto, tomámos esta decisão com a certeza de que é precisamente por elas, em primeiro lugar, que o fazemos. 

Apesar desta saída, reforçamos o nosso compromisso em continuar a lutar, a celebrar, e a promover mais visibilidade e orgulho junto das nossas comunidades. Este compromisso mantém-se inabalável, priorizando na nossa ação e trabalho diários a nossa missão: defender os Direitos Humanos, lutando pelos direitos das pessoas LGBTI+ e das suas famílias em Portugal.

Regarding ILGA Portugal’s withdrawal from the organization of EuroPride 2025

The ILGA Portugal Association informs its decision to leave the EuroPride Lisboa 2025 Association and cease its role as co-organizer of EuroPride 2025 event that will take place in Lisbon. This decision was taken after several months of deep consideration and communicated to Variações Association, as co-organizing association, and to the European Pride Organisers Association (EPOA), as the licensing and supervising entity of the event.

We would like to express our deep gratitude to all the people who, on behalf of ILGA Portugal, have dedicated their time and commitment to this project over the years, since the first bid to bring EuroPride to Portugal. We would also like to thank the various entities that have shown their support for this initiative and that will certainly continue to contribute to the realization of this event.

We would like to emphasize that this was not an easy decision on the part of the ILGA Portugal Board, and that we recognize the impact of EuroPride in promoting the visibility and celebration of the community, both nationally and internationally. However, the current political and social context demands that our focus and efforts be directed towards more structured, present and integrated political action in broader and intersectional social movements.

The daily confrontation with the growing needs of our communities, in terms of psychological, social and community support, makes it clear that our priority must be to respond to these challenges. Organizing an event with the size and demands of EuroPride, at this time, is incompatible with the limited resources of the Association, putting at risk the sustainability and structure of ILGA Portugal and, therefore, compromising the quality of our services to the community.

We communicate this decision with a clear conscience, knowing that we did everything in our power to remain in the organization, with all our knowledge and experience. We understand the frustration and dissatisfaction that can arise in our associates, volunteers and in our communities, because we too feel that same frustration. However, we made this decision with the certainty that it is precisely for them, first and foremost, that we do it.

Despite this departure, we reinforce our commitment to continue fighting, celebrating, and promoting more visibility and pride among our communities. This commitment remains unwavering, prioritizing our mission in our daily actions and work: defending Human Rights, and fighting for the rights of LGBTI+ people and their families in Portugal.
